CHAWIA HIGH SCHOOL
Chawia High school began as a community initiative in 2008. The land had been set aside for the school in 1972. In 2009, the school was registered as a fully fledged government institution, receiving the first teacher from The Teachers’ Service Commission in September the same year. This was the principal. The rest of the teachers were O-level graduates.
In 2010 January, Mr. Jones Henry Masae Mwakulomba joined the school from St.Mary’s Boys’ High School Lushangonyi to teach Biology and Agriculture. Later In the year, MS/ Prisca Mutswenje was posted to teach English and Literature. Mr. Dominic Oka Mwamboa was posted to in September 2011. He handles Mathematics and Biology. Mr. Laban
The school is located in Jangara Village, Chawia Location,Mwatate District, Taita-Taveta County. This county is in the Coast Province of Kenya. To access the school, one can use the Taveta-Mwatate Road through Mruru or the Mwatate Wundanyi road through Kibarani stage known as Ngiriwunyi by the locals.
The school enrolment stands at 128 students currently but with the form one admissions of 2012, it should go to a total of 170.
